Update 06/30/12:
A mini-milestone for Miss Annie…………her role as a mother is complete. All 8 puppies in her litter, including 6 precious females and 2 equally as precious males, are healthy, weaned and ready for adoption. Great job, Annie, and many thanks to her foster family!!
Annie herself is in good health and is ready to begin anew. She’ll be an exciting gal to work with and watch mature in the hands of a springer-loving family.
Update 06/22/12:
Annie and her foster family have been exceedingly busy since her arrival. With a welcome break in their pace comes time to share news and what a story this is!
“……………When I picked Annie up, I thought she was going to have the puppies any day because of her size. I played the waiting game for three weeks as I put weight on her and the puppies continued to grow. On April 27th, Annie delivered 8 healthy puppies. She proved to be a wonderful, loving momma dog.
When I first got Annie, I assumed she was chasing chickens to eat since she was so underweight. After living with her for this time, I have come to realize, she was probably chasing them because she is so birdy. This dog is a total bird dog. She has an incredible talent for bird hunting.
Another thing when I brought Annie into my home, I found myself fostering a very uninhibited and untrained dog. She had no limitations on where she would run. For example, on the window sills, the dining room table, across the living room sofa etc. Yep, I had my hands full. But, there is a silver lining in all of this. I have fostered hundreds of springers. This girl is one of the smartest dogs I have ever taken care of. She learns very quickly and wants to please which makes it fun to train her. Along with her agility skills, she has a high speed wagger; one of the fastest tails in the east.
If you have children and were looking for a dog that is stable and will be a perfect lifetime companion for them, Annie would be a good choice. But, Annie is going to require an owner who is willing to do some training and someone who is willing to give her the time. In time, she will be perfect but she needs to find someone who has the patience and love to teach her what we want from her. Since I have worked with her, she has made immense strides in her behavior. She will need someone who is willing to go outside with her, regardless of whether you have a fence or not. She will go over a 6-foot fence if she is left alone. She runs to the front door to be let in, she just wants to be with her people………..
I have cats and she is not concerned with them. She just watches them go by her. But, I also have birds and she is possessed with them so I would suggest a home without birds.
She is going to be a gem for a family who is willing to make her know she is wanted and part of a family. With the right home and training, I see Annie as the perfect family dog.”
More to come on this beautiful young fieldie………………
Original:
Running loose and chasing chickens out of hunger with another Springer in Kentucky, Annie and her companion had obviously been dumped. In their desperation, they were hoping that a chicken dinner on the wing was in order. When animal control picked them up, the little fieldie girl wore a collar with her name– Annie. The original owner was located and claimed he got rid of those dogs and apparently the new owner didn’t want them anymore either. He sure didn’t want them back. Luckily, MAESSR was there to help.
A young Springer girl who is probably about 2 years old, Annie is very pregnant. An experienced foster family volunteered to take care of her through the whelping of her puppies and beyond so that she and the puppies can find wonderful forever families. Her babies will be born any day now, so keep your eyes open for any circling storks!
This small fieldie has a tail that wags non-stop! Her foster mom finds Annie very accommodating and cooperative as she works with her and trains her. Annie is exceptionally smart! She is fairly well housetrained but still needs to be worked with in her forever home to find out what is expected of her and what her boundaries are. She tries very hard to do right.
One thing her foster mom has observed is Annie’s desire to leave the room or property. It’s unknown if this behavior is from a lack of training or a lack of love. Perhaps her owner didn’t want her around and didn’t give her the attention she desired, so Annie sought refuge by running away. It is highly suggested she be owned by someone who has a fenced yard.
Once she has her puppies and they are weaned, Annie will be spayed and ready to go to her new home. She would be fantastic with children!
Watch for updates on our expectant mom!
