Update 04/15/11:
Annie is doing really well on her current dosage of thyroid meds and will need to stay on this inexpensive treatment for life. Her attitude and energy level have really improved. She is even sweeter than before and continues to do well with all the springers in her foster home.
While Annie was at the vet to verify her thyroid test results, further examination found that Annie had a yeast infection in her ears; treatment began and should clear those ears in a few days. Her vet also found that Annie’s knee stiffness was due to partial tears in her ACL. The vet felt that, since Annie had good mobility, the best course of action would be to put her on Dasuquin, a quality supplement which would help strengthen the joints and tendons. Annie is receiving this daily now too. Fetching her beloved tennis ball should be even easier over the coming weeks!
What a sweetheart – and almost ready to pleasure and love one very lucky furever family!
Original:
Annie lived her entire life with her Virginia family and co-existed peacefully with another female Springer in the home for 8 years. When Annie suddenly began attacking her canine sibling for no apparent reason, the decision was made to relinquish her to MAESSR where she could begin a new life with another loving family.
With humans, Annie is very loving and docile and has never shown any type of aggression. In her previous home, she regularly played with the neighbor’s children without issue. The groomer loves her, and Annie doesn’t even need to be sedated to have her teeth cleaned! Being an older girl, Annie does have some aches and pains in her rear legs. Although x-rays of the area did not reveal anything sinister, Annie is taking occasional pain medicine to help with the stiffness in her knees.
This well-behaved girl is housetrained and does not dig, chew inappropriate objects, jump the fence, or submissively urinate. She barks when someone rings the doorbell and has a history of begging for food and counter-surfing. Annie puts her paw in her foster mom’s lap when she wants attention – which is always – but she does not jump on people. She hasn’t had formal obedience training but does know the commands sit, stay, come, down, and shake. She has never been crate trained and is instead allowed full freedom in her foster home. Her only temperament issue is fear of a broom; when one is out, she simply leaves the room.
As an active senior Springer, Annie loves to fetch a tennis ball and walk around the house with a stuffed toy in her mouth. She enjoys going for walks but does pull when on leash. Currently, Annie is staying in a foster home with multiple dogs and she has been great with all of them. Do you have room in your home for this true sweetheart? Annie would love to rest her chin in your lap :)).
