Updated 3/31/07: Sadly, the promise that Anna held during her early weeks in foster care did not lead to a successful adoption, a true disappointment for all who surrounded her.
Updated 2/15/07: Anna is doing great in foster care. With time to settle into her new surroundings, she’s made great leaps with her submissive urination and rarely has an accident now. She’s also progressing nicely with meeting strangers and doesn’t need to rush out the door so quickly with new arrivals.
She loves to play with both resident dogs and seems to be getting along fine now with the resident female. Anna doesn’t get on furniture unless invited and is very willing to snuggle right beside her people. Her favorite thing has turned out to be taking walks. She is always ready for an outing in the neighborhood with someone on the other end of her leash. Have leash, will walk! How about you??
Original: Anna lived with her original family for her first two years until one of the children developed allergies to her. Now this beautiful bench bred springer is depending on MAESSR to find a forever home for her. She’s extremely playful with her canine foster brother, pawing at him to initiate play. The jury is still out on the foster sister. Anna and the resident female springer seem to get along. It’s just going to take a few days for both of them to get used to having another lady around the house.
Anna is crate-trained and has been spending time in the crate while her foster parents are out. At night, she’s been given the run of the house and seems to be fine. Currently, she sleeps on a dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. Anna does have some issues with submissive urination which her foster family is working on with her. She gets very excited when her foster parents come home or new people come over, so she has to go out immediately. Her foster family definitely thinks it is something that can be corrected with time to settle and consistent guidance.
The commands she knows include “sit,” “paw,” and “lie down.” She knows to go into her crate by her foster parents saying “in.” Anna had not been walked on a leash prior to coming to her foster family, but she is making good progress. She’s just a little timid. Her foster mom has walked Anna on a leash with the resident dogs and Anna has just followed along with them. In the car, Anna is a great passenger.
Her foster family has not observed Anna with children or cats yet. However, Anna’s original family had young children with whom she reportedly got along fine. They also had a cat that she would chase to play, but she would not harm it. Anna has nice house manners and does not counter-surf. She is a little beggar, though, and loves doggie cookies.
Does Anna have a dog bed and some cookies waiting for her in your house?
