Original: “When it’s time to relax, Angus is a very sweet and lovable dog who enjoys sitting on the sofa, being brushed and snuggled by his people.”
Angus was relinquished to MAESSR when his older Pennsylvania family realized he was more than they could handle and that he would be far happier living with a family who had a lot of room for him to run and time to devote to him.
Angus is crate trained and spends his overnight hours in his crate. During the day he has free rein in the house and is completely housetrained, showing no submissive urination issues. He is fine with regular visitors to the home although he becomes quite excited and jumps up in greeting. This youngster is a beggar at the dinner table and is usually crated while his foster family is having a meal. AND, with his long legs, he is an extraordinary counter-surfer! When it’s time to relax, Angus is a very sweet and lovable dog who enjoys sitting on the sofa, being brushed and snuggled by his people.
Angus did very well at “puppy obedience” classes and learned the seven basic commands. However, he is very impulsive, easily distracted, and very selective about obeying the commands. He really seemed to enjoy the interaction with other dogs during the training classes. Angus spotted the “tunnels” during puppy school and immediately went for them racing through the tunnel and jumping over obstacles at the end. This boy could be a star in agility training!!!
Outside, this handsome fellow will chase a ball or Frisbee forever, but does not understand the concept of giving it back (it’s his; he’s keeping it), so when his people play Frisbee or fetch, they must remember to have two toys–a second one to toss so the first one can be picked up again! He also seems to have a very high prey drive as he chases rabbits, squirrels and birds; a cat ventured into the yard one day, and he gave chase to that also. Angus LOVES water in any shape or form. He thinks it was invented just for him–pool, pond, stream or snow it’s all good and makes him very happy!!! He will go out into the yard and entertain himself for brief periods of time, but if he is alone, he heads back to the door to try and entice people to come outside and play with him. Angus is very excited when going on a walk; he pulls like crazy on the leash, but usually settles into a nice pace after a few minutes.
Angus was born to RUN and will do well on a farm or another large outdoor setting. He is very intelligent and quick to learn—those brains and that need for movement need to be challenged so this happy fellow does not become bored. While he loves people, a family with older children would be the best as he may be too exuberant for youngsters. What fun he and his furever family will have this summer hiking, playing Frisbee and fetch (always with two balls or two Frisbees) and looking for rain puddles or rivers everywhere!
