Update 10/19/09: Angel has had some recent lumps that became sore and were open but, with a two-week course of antibiotics, these areas are now healed and looking great!! Angel took her antibiotics without a problem. It was almost as if she knew these pills would help her to be all that she can be!
The name Angel fits this senior girl’s temperament. She is sweet and serene. Her foster mom has taken her on some weekend getaways where she stayed in a strange place and met several new people. Angel did well in an unfamiliar setting and with meeting new people. Everyone who met her was very impressed with how well behaved she is. She even had the chance to make a new canine acquaintance and there were no problems. On one of the getaways, Angel had the opportunity to see some deer in the distance. The deer piqued her interest, and she did start to run after them. However, when her foster mom called her to come, she responded without any problems.
Angel loves car rides and is a well behaved passenger. She also enjoys walks. She does not do a formal heel but also does not pull on the leash. She thoroughly enjoys being out and about to see new sights and smell new smells.
The only thing missing in Angel’s life is a home to call her own. Won’t you consider making this “Angel” a part of your family?
Update 09/10/09: Angel is a VERY happy girl. She no longer has to wear that awful “lampshade” on her head and the sutures are OUT!! She has also received very good news from the vet. All of the infected tumors removed were benign!!! This news brought a big smile to her foster mom’s face. When Angel’s sutures were removed, she was brought up to date on all of her vaccines too.
Since having the surgery and completing her recuperation, Angel is a new dog. She has more energy and is more playful. The happy dance she does when the leash comes out, has also started to occur at mealtimes. She spends much more time sniffing at things in the yard and investigating areas that she had never ventured into in the past.
She remains the sweetest thing on earth. Angel loves to snuggle and continues to follow her foster mom around the house. She loves having her ears scratched and her belly rubbed. Other than her increase in energy, nothing has changed. She remains a very well mannered girl who is just happy to be near her people.
With all of the good news that Angel has had, she is still awaiting one more good thing. She is awaiting that family and home to call her very own. Won’t you be the one to deliver that last bit of good news to Angel?
Update 08/23/09: Angel has undergone surgery to have infected cysts removed. She came through like the trooper that she is. She is anxiously awaiting the removal of the sutures because she is not overly fond of the “lamp shade” that she needs to wear at all times. With grace and style, she is persevering and putting up with not only the lampshade but also the medicines she needs to take. She takes them with no problem as long as her foster mom puts them in a pill pocket.
Velcro Springer and Angel are one in the same!! She follows her foster mom all around the house and becomes upset if she does not know where “Mom” is. Angel loves belly rubs and cuddling. She has started to approach family members to give them her paw as a signal that she wants some “luvin”.
Her house manners remain impeccable. Although she is trusted in the house when unsupervised, her people have started to crate her again. Angel started to lay right in front of the door, so it was difficult for the human occupants to get into the house without startling her. She now knows the routine and will immediately go to her crate when last out has been completed. She keeps her crate clean and can spend the entire day there with no problems.
Angel walks well on lead. When she sees someone pick up a leash, she does the cutest happy dance. She will spin in circles and run to the front door. If her humans do not make it there fast enough for her liking, she will run back to them as if to say, “What is taking so long?” She continues to enjoy her yard time and will run up to the fence to bark at passerby’s. Once she can no longer see them, she stops and occupies herself with the smells in the yard. Even though some of her younger foster siblings can be caught digging, Angel has never attempted to follow their bad example.
She does not raid the garbage can or try to steal human possessions. On rare occasions when her foster mom is taking too long to prepare Angel’s meal, she will jump up on the counter to check things out. With a stern off, she immediately gets down.
Her foster mom is not sure if Angel has had any obedience training. When told to sit, she would not follow the command. In record time with a clicker and some treats, Angel has learned to sit. She will come when called. Initially she would try to follow the humans out the front door. She has followed the good example set by her foster siblings and will follow the wait command now. The next command to be learned is down. Paws are crossed that she will master this command in no time at all.
Angel rides well in the car. She will hop right in as soon as the car door is opened. She will watch out the car window and does bark if she sees someone on a bicycle. Again, she is easily quieted.
The hope is that Angel will make a speedy recovery so she can find the fur ever home that she so longs for. Could it be with you?
Original: Angel was taken to a Pennsylvania shelter when her elderly owner suddenly became allergic to her. Luckily, MAESSR stepped in to help this senior Springer.
When her foster mom picked her up from the shelter, Angel was immediately taken to the vet for treatment of some badly infected cysts. In addition to these infected lesions, both of her ears, and the underside of her tail were infected. Angel did very well at the vet’s office. As she and her foster mom waited for their appointment, Angel did not seem to notice all of the other dogs there and sat calmly by her foster mom’s side, enjoying the attention given to her by the staff. Although she was frightened by the exam, she allowed the vet, and the vet techs, to clean the infected areas of her body. She is now on a course of antibiotics and her foster mom continues to play nurse giving her the best possible care to clear up these infections. Once her physical condition improves, Angel will receive her DA2PP booster.
Despite the infections, Angel is a very loving girl who enjoys cuddling with her foster mom, and anybody else with whom she comes in contact. She enjoys chewing on small bones and spending time sniffing out in the yard. She gets along well with the four resident dogs in her foster home. Because these dogs are a bit younger and play too rough for a gentle senior girl, Angel prefers to stay on the sidelines and watch them. She also enjoys watching out the front door as the world passes by, barking occasionally, but easily quieted. When her humans return home, Angel is always there to greet them with a Springer smile and wagging tail.
Angel has a very healthy appetite, eating all of the food in her dish and drinking appropriately as well. She is not food aggressive and will allow her foster mom to remove the food dish or stick her hand in while Angel is eating. She is very gentle when taking treats, too. Angel has wonderful house manners. Initially, her foster mom kept her crated when no one was home, but it became obvious that she was totally trustworthy. She is housetrained and now has free run of the house even when no one is home.
Angel will remain on hold until MAESSR is sure that she is a healthy girl who can warm the hearts of an adoptive family.
