Original: Andy was picked up by a shelter in South Jersey after found wandering in a school yard. Although dirty, matted, and flea infested, the staff could see that this was a loving boy who still had a lot life in him to share. So, they contacted MAESSR.
This sweet senior was patient for his first bath and must have liked the water very much because he decided to go for a swim in his foster family’s in-ground pool as well. The pool is closed for the season now as Andy would need a full-time life guard on duty as his sight is severely compromised due to cataracts. Andy definitely sees shadows and will find his people if they keep calling his name– his tail wagging happily all the while. Andy would do best in a forever home with a limited number of steps. Steps scare him; even going up and down just the two steps into and out of his foster home frightens him. He will do it and needs to be coaxed, but he doesn’t like it.
After a day at the spa Andy was transformed into quite a looker. He has a little bounce in his step and is enjoying all of the hugs and compliments he is getting from his foster family. He is good with the resident Springer who is reconsidering how he feels about baths and haircuts after seeking Andy’s transformation.
Andy loves to “lean into” his people when he is being petted and would like to just melt his little body right onto theirs forever if he could. He is not an attention hog, but savors human contact. He loves it when people are around, but will settle nicely and take a nap otherwise. He is the perfect gentleman– no begging for food, no counter-surfing, no getting up on furniture. He is housetrained, too, having not even a single accident in the house. Andy walks well on a leash which helps to guide him as he gets acquainted with his new surroundings. He rides well in the car, settling down nicely since looking out the window and sightseeing are not options for him.
Andy is scheduled to visit the vet again to have some dental work taken care of as it is obvious he has not been good about brushing and flossing in the past. He will likely get a visit from the tooth fairy as well as a few teeth may be need to be pulled. After his dental work, Andy will be neutered and a lump on his tummy will be removed and examined.
Older Springers are a real treasure and a wonderful addition to a family. Let Andy enrich your life!
