Original: “His foster mom is convinced Amos has a fantastic temperament.”
Amos was relinquished to MAESSR because his family in South Carolina had a new baby and a new job schedule. Combined, these circumstances did not leave time for Amos. The owner was very sad to see him go because they had him since he was a puppy. He was confident, though, that MAESSR would find Amos a wonderful new home.
Upon arriving at his foster home, Amos was very confused about why there were so many dogs around—residents and foster dogs. However, this handsome young Springer took it in stride and reacted very well to all of them.
Amos was carrying way too much coat for a Virginia summer, so his foster mom gave him a good haircut the next day. Unfortunately, when the hair was removed, she could see that poor Amos had a nasty skin infection. To help him feel better, he got a nice bath with medicated shampoo. In the past Amos had been sedated at the vet to be groomed twice a year. They said it was because he was so anxious; however, when his foster mom groomed him, he behaved fairly well. She feels that if someone works with him, he will quickly learn to love getting groomed. He certainly LOVES attention!
This young boy is both housetrained and crate trained, using the doggie door to go out into the fenced yard. At night he is sometimes crated for sleep but is happier sleeping on a dog bed beside his foster parents’ bed. He would prefer sleeping in the big bed with them, but. . . . Amos will counter-surf if given the opportunity but quickly gets down when told to. On a leash walk Amos is okay. He starts out pulling but quickly settles down and walks fairly well. Amos likes to ride in the car, but he should be crated because he gets excited and tries to drive.
His foster mom is convinced Amos has a fantastic temperament. She turned him every which way but loose while grooming him and he took it all in stride. This sweet boy is going to make some lucky family very happy.
