Update 2/27/04:Alfie is in his forever home!
Update 2/11/04: Alfie has done great with his crate training. He is friendly to all new people (including children) that he meets. He walks beautifully on a leash and loves car rides. He is a very calm Springer who likes toys but only to walk around the house with them in his mouth. He is very affectionate. He gets along with the resident dog but gets excited and chases the resident cat. He is a joy to be with in every way!
Original: Alfie is a liver and white male who was found as a stray in PA on Christmas day. A nice family took him in, and he promptly stole their hearts! Unfortunately, their other 2 male dogs were not ready to accept a new family member.
Alfie appears to be in good health and looks like he may have been groomed fairly recently. He is scheduled to go to the vet this week for an exam and age determination and will also be scheduled to be neutered.
Alfie is so unbelievably sweet. He is a little bit timid at times but loves to curl up on your lap. He can’t seem to get close enough to his foster mom. He seems partial to females and is hesitant with the foster dad. In fact, he won’t come to the foster dad, even with treats, until mom enters the room.
He gets along good with the resident 2-year-old male ESS but will sometimes growl when the resident dog approaches him when with foster mom. He makes it known that he does not take kindly to his affection time being interrupted. He has never growled at any of his foster people which includes children ages 15,11 and 9. He knows sit and down and will give his paw. He hops up on the couch and bed but will immediately jump down when told to. He does not prefer staying crated during the day but does not bark excessively. The foster family is crate training slowly and will be working on him accepting the crate graciously. He walks very nice on a leash and enjoys car rides. Alfie barks and chases the resident cat but will not get close enough to try to harm him. He is not interested in toys of any kind in the house, and he has not had an opportunity to play outside in a fenced yard. He refuses to engage in play with the resident dog but would rather just chill with his people. He is extremely affectionate, loveable and calm.
The nice family who found him experienced him having anxiety when he needed to be separated in another part of the house because of their resident dogs. His foster family has not experienced this behavior yet, in fact, they have only heard him bark or cry a couple of times. Even though he is slightly jealous of the resident dog at times, he may be benefiting from the canine company as we have not seen any type of separation anxiety when we leave the house.
He is house trained and well mannered. He will explore the garbage if given the opportunity but will quickly react when he is corrected. He is going to be the perfect family member for someone looking for a loyal, loveable, lazy boy companion.
