Updated 6/18/06: Adam has successfully been neutered. It has been 1 week, and he is healing very nicely. He was a little tired and sore for about 48 hours after his surgery and really just wanted to be snuggled and reassured. After those 48 hours, though, he was back to his spunky little self!
Adam’s foster mom has been working on leash training with him and his mouthing behavior as well as his jumping and counter surfing. He has made great progress in the short time he has been with her and is proving to be a very willing learner. He does have some normal chewing issues that are still being addressed. His foster mom finds that keeping him in chew toys and chew treats is the best way to go and knows he will outgrow this. Another of his accomplishments is mastering the basement stairs! Adam bounds up and down like a pro these days.
All in all, Adam is coming along really well and will be ready very soon to make his move to his forever home. He needs a family to settle in with who will love him and really enjoy watching him finish growing up. He has a life time of love to offer and spunk enough to keep life interesting!!! What a winning combination!!
Original: Adam is a very lively, playful, and happy little boy who will soon be 1 year old. He has a long crop of hair on top of his head that almost seems a part of his personality. He came into MAESSR’s care when his owner’s landlord requested that the number of dogs living in the home be reduced. The family also had both of Adam’s parents and, after placing his dad, turned to MAESSR to find a loving home for Adam. He is a healthy pup with a lot of energy and personality to share with those around him.
Adam loves to romp and play with his foster mom, a foster Golden Retriever and any and all toys. He and his foster brother became instant best buddies and play together very well. Adam is a jumper and loves to see what may be sitting above him on any given surface but responds well when told to get down. He is still a bit mouthy when playing but with time his foster mom is sure he’ll overcome this behavior. He’s a doll and would never hurt a flea but, until he grows beyond mouthing and jumping to greet folks, he will probably do best if living with people who are at least 6 years old.
While being very playful, Adam is a snuggler as well. The closer he can lay to you the better for him. He even seems to hug you at times. Adam enjoys walks and is fairly good on a leash with a few reminders. He is not fond of riding in a car and is still young enough that it upsets his stomach sometimes but he is making great progress. He seems to have a very adaptable nature.
Adam is crate trained and will go in to relax for a few minutes if it is left open. He has also been crated while his mom is away for a normal workday. Since he’s been doing good with his housetraining, she has just started to leave him in a safe zone while at work. On the first day he had an accident. His foster mom will continue to work with him on this but also feels that, if his adopting family works as she does, they’ll probably want to maintain crating for a while. At night Adam enjoys sleeping in bed with his people but is often up and down from bed to floor looking for the perfect spot. He also will pick inappropriate things to chew at times as many pups do, not furniture, but apparently anything that belongs to his foster mom can catch his interest. This means that his “safe” zone must be very safe if Adam is to remain truly safe!
With things he has never seen or experienced before, such as basement stairs, Adam is a bit of a scaredy cat. His foster mom is sure he will overcome most of these fears with time and gentle reassurance. An obedience class with his adopting family will also help a great deal in boosting his self-confidence and ease in new situations.
Neutering is the only thing between Adam and joining his forever family. He has an adorable, expressive face so typical of Springers. If you are active, especially outdoors and are ready to get as much love back as you can give this little guy, Adam is ready for you!!
