Original: “As much as Ace loves to play with the resident dogs, his favorite place is next to his human.”
Ace came to MAESSR after his owner’s New York house burned down. Ace was the only one home at the time of the fire and was rescued by the fire department. After the fire Ace’s owner found himself unable to meet Ace’s needs and made the difficult decision to do what was best for Ace and place him with MAESSR.
Ace found himself in an unfamiliar home with his foster mom’s resident dogs. Not being shy, Ace jumped right in and made himself comfortable within the pack.
Housetrained, Ace goes to the backdoor when he needs to go out but he doesn’t do any additional signaling. Ace is also crate trained but has anxiety when he is in a crate and left alone. Ace and his foster mom are working on this. If foster mom is going out for an extended period of time, she takes Ace with her.
The resident and foster dogs are not allowed in the kitchen, so it is unknown if Ace counter-surfs or gets into the trash. He has good house manners and has not chewed anything inappropriate. He can entertain himself by finding a bone or toy to chew on or play with. Ace loves to cuddle on the couch with his foster mom, too.
Ace knows basic commands like “come” and “sit.” His foster mom is working to improve his leash manners. Foster mom says that Ace is always open to meeting strangers and other animals on a walk. Ace will jump up on people when he gets excited but is learning to keep his feet on the ground. If a car ride is in the offing, Ace is always happy to come along. He loves the car!
Ace is a little underweight and he likes his foster mom to stand with him while he eats. If foster mom walks away, Ace will stop eating. Because he is easily distracted at mealtime, he is fed separately from the resident dogs. Ace needs to concentrate on eating!
Great with the other dogs in his household, Ace loves to run and play chase with them. This medium energy boy eventually conks out after all that play and takes a nap! He enjoys chewing on nylabones but doesn’t display any guarding issues with his toys or food. It is unknown how Ace is at the groomer but he was excellent at the vet.
Ace is very much a Velcro Springer with overflowing love and commitment to his human. As much as Ace loves to play with the resident dogs, his favorite place is next to his human.
Ace’s dream family would be someone who has a lot of time to spend with him and where he wouldn’t have to spend extended periods of time in a crate. Having another playful dog would be nice but not necessary provided his person would play with Ace and take him on long walks.
Bring this sweet boy into your home and family. You will never be sorry you did!
