Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Abigail and her littermate Madisyn came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs.
This sweet puppy and her sister have a new lease on life and are loving their explorations of the world. For the sisters every day holds a new adventure. Their resident canine foster brothers and sister are teaching them everything they needs to know about good puppy manners. The little girls are full of puppy energy and enjoy spending many hours outside romping in the yard.
Both Abbie and her sister quickly learned to run to the backdoor when their gated area is opened and they take off down the stairs following the resident female – their “adopted canine foster mom Rosie.” She takes her charges very seriously and herds them around the yard, keeping an eye on them both and making sure they know when their play is too rough.
Besides racing up and down the stairs, running in the fenced yard, and playing with the other dogs, their favorite thing to do is be lap warmers. They love being with their human foster mom and love to be loved on! During their vet visit, their feet never hit the ground. All the techs and docs were too busy passing them around and loving on them. They obliged by doling out puppy kisses to all!
Abigail and Madisyn have learned to potty on the pads when in their pen and both sleep cuddled together in their crate. The girls both eat three times per day as they are growing babies. Meal time will soon be transitioned to twice a day as their tummies get bigger. Training should be easy as they are both very food motivated.
These active pups really love their toys. It is so cute to see them steal their foster brother’s favorite ball and trot across the yard with it in her mouth. He stands there looking baffled that they stole his ball!
Note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. It will require the adoptive family to take Abbie and Madisyn through two series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption.
Abigail and her sister are going to bring much joy and love to some very lucky families.
