Original: “Very good when company comes over, Abbott lets her foster family know someone is at the door but greets them with that sweet wiggle butt!”
When Abbott’s owners in North Carolina had another baby and moved into a condo with no yard, they felt it better to rehome her so she could have a yard and owners who could give her all the attention she craves. So, to have these wishes come true, Abbott became a MAESSR girl.
Abbott’s foster home includes a 3 year old resident male and at first he and Abbott had a touchy relationship. However, by the third day, they were in sync with each other and are getting along fine. She does like to protect her food bowl when it is filled with her dinner, but she does not guard her snacks or the shared water bowl. Abbott is a great eater and reminds her people when it’s dinner time! She is polite about not begging for food while her foster parents are eating. Good girl! There are no resident cats in her foster home so it is unknown how Abbott would react to felines.
Housetrained, Abbott lets her people know she has to go outside to relieve herself by going to the door. This little lady is crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. With nice house manners, she will not jump on furniture or chew on anything inappropriate.
Great with commands, Abbott knows “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” Her recall is GREAT! She walks every evening with her foster family, side-by-side with the resident male. She will bark at a passing dog but does not pull her person toward the dog. In the car, Abbott is a great passenger as long as she has a blanket to lie on; otherwise, she will stand for the whole ride.
Abbott loves to be outside in the sun! She is always up for play! Her favorite toys are her Kong and tennis balls!!! She plays hard like a puppy but when it’s done, she is happy and rests. Since she is such a hard chewer, her foster mom recommends tough toys for her.
Very good when company comes over, Abbott lets her foster family know someone is at the door but greets them with that sweet wiggle butt! There are no children in her foster family and it was reported that she was not keen on the toddler and baby in her original home. Older children who know how to interact properly with a dog and who would play with her and would love on her would probably be fine in her forever family. Abbot was wonderful with the groomer and the vet.
Her foster parents think Miss Abbott’s forever home should be a place with a fenced yard and owners who are home most of the time. She could easily be an only dog in the house since she can take over, wanting her people all to herself so she can get as much love and affection as she can!
Because she has been fully trained, there isn’t much to do but love on this girl. All you would have to do is give her love, attention, belly rubs, and be ready to receive lots of kisses.
