Update 07/06/09: Abbie has returned to MAESSR through no fault of her own. Her adopting mom had a major health situation arise and felt that Abbie needed more time and energy than she had to give, so the difficult decision was made.
As a typical energetic Springer pup, Abbie will need a family with the patience and energy to keep up with her. She likes to sit on a chair at the kitchen table and watch everything going on. She will counter surf but stops when corrected. She is crate trained but would prefer to sleep in the bed with her people. Abbie knows some commands, is house trained, and walks well on a leash. She is great with people of all ages, good with other dogs and good with cats.
Abbie has something going on with her skin and is being treated with a couple of meds at this time to get it all cleared up. Hopefully it will be straight soon and she can be off to her new adoptive home.
One of the requirements of adopting a MAESSR Springer under the age of 1 year is that the adopting family will take the pup through at least one set of obedience classes. Abbie is not a year old yet, so this will be a requirement of her adopting home. This will be a wonderful bonding opportunity for Abbie and her new family.
Original: After a raid on a puppy mill, the Philadelphia SPCA took in over 150 animals due to sickness or unsanitary living conditions where animals were living in their own waste. Among this number were five Springer puppies that were approximately twelve weeks old. The shelter staff worked very hard to get as many animals as possible out of the shelter and into rescue groups as quickly as possible. MAESSR was more than happy to oblige! There is nothing cuter than a Springer puppy, and foster families quickly rallied to take in these pups. Who doesn’t like puppy breath?!
Some MAESSR foster moms went to the shelter to pick up the puppies that were happy to cuddle and play! They were whisked away to their foster homes and started on their road to recovery. These little puppies smelled as if they had been living in a pig pen, but their MAESSR foster homes got them cleaned up and smelling like puppies again! They are feisty, happy, and funny pups! Typical of Springers, they love being with their people and love to wrestle with other dogs!
Little Abbie 12 is one of the females and her foster mom says that she is the most wonderful little puppy she has ever had or fostered! Abbie is already housetrained, and crate trained. In true Springer style, she loves to play ball and fetch sticks. She also gets along with the resident cats and dogs. When it comes to little kids, Abbie gets along well with children ages two and up. These aren’t the only kids she gets along with, either. Her foster family has goats and Abbie likes to hang out at the barn with the goats while her foster mom cleans stalls.
Abbie is perfect in every way! She would be an asset to any family.
