Update 10/18/10:
Abbey, also called “Abracadabra” by her foster mom, is a sweet, sweet girl who has become acclimated to her new surroundings and companions. Although she would prefer otherwise, Abbey tolerates the fact that her canine foster siblings ignore her. She is very playful and agreeable with other dogs she meets.
This housebroken gal sleeps through the night, preferring to sleep with her foster mom on the bed rather than alone on the floor. She’s a real cuddler!
Young at heart, Abbey is very interested in her surroundings. She accompanies her foster family on their many hikes in the woods, learning the wonders of creeks and leaping over fallen trees.
Abbey’s foster mom describes her as a great dog, and everyone she meets agrees that she is a real gem.
How about a hike in the woods to watch the leaves change? And maybe afterwards a warm, crackling fire to curl up near? Add sweet Abby to this picture and you have a perfect autumn day! This cuddle bug is looking for a special family to love and call her own.
Original:
When their original family had an unexpected baby, Abbey 9 and Beau 8 were relinquished to MAESSR. When the baby started crawling at 7 months of age, the family was very concerned because Abbey had started to lose her hearing and she would startle very easily. Their main worry was as the baby got more active, he might startle Abbey and she could snap and hurt him. The extremely difficult decision was made to place her with MAESSR.
Abbey is very agile for her age and everyone that meets her comments that she cannot possibly be 11 years old! She is very sweet and loves to be with her people. Enjoying the good life, Abbey does get on the furniture and loves to sleep in bed with her foster family. Her foster mom tried crating her and she cried until she was let out. Since Abbey has wonderful house manners and is housetrained, she has not been crated when her foster family is at work. She likes to ride in the car and LOVES to go swimming and being groomed.
When she was taken to the vet for her check up, Abbey tested a strong Lyme positive and is now being treated to ensure the Lyme disease does not activate. The vet said she looked good and can hear high pitches.
This sweet, soft senior is a gentle soul who would love to have an adoring family and quiet household with whom to spend her golden years. Opening your heart to a wonderful seasoned Springer is a decision you will never regret!
