Original: “He is smart, energetic and, as with most pups, would love to have a job to do.”
Ollie was purchased after his Maryland family, who had been so much in love with a female Springer lost to old age a decade before, decided they needed a new pup in their lives. Unfortunately, when the wife was diagnosed with cancer on top of other health concerns, the couple decided with heavy hearts to let the new, energetic pup go into rescue.
These original owners did a good job with Ollie. He’s 90%+ housebroken; he just needs someone to make sure he goes outside after meals or drinking a lot and then playing. He crates quietly at night, but during the day, he’d rather be near his humans. He doesn’t mind daylight crate time while his foster mom who works from home is nearby, but otherwise tends to “emote” and whimper/whine until either his humans are nearby again or he gives up bothering. When the humans are away, he’s crated to avoid accidents or just taken along. He loves car rides and has no issues with them even if he’s eaten recently.
Ollie loves having a fenced yard. In his original home, he was leash walked but now he has foster siblings to show him the best pee spots and a decaying picnic table from which he’s learning to survey the world. He’s good with the resident dogs, two female and one male sight hound, although a dominant male might take exception to his “close talker” attitude.
Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Ollie will be at the top of his class!
Ollie is openly affectionate and ready to learn what’s acceptable and what’s considered “just stop it” behavior. He is smart, energetic and, as with most pups, would love to have a job to do. With his good looks, friendly attitude and a bit of focus from his new home, he’ll be a real treasure.
