Tucker crashed a picnic, and, when not claimed, was taken to a New York shelter. Fortunately, he was pulled from the shelter when his time was up and became a MAESSR boy.
This lean, muscular boy must have had a home that did put some time and training into him. Tucker is completely housetrained and can be trusted loose in the house, with the exception of wastebasket diving (Kleenex, Q-tips, cardboard) and probably counter-surfing. He is allowed free run of the house, but has never tried to get on furniture and for the most part is content to sleep on a dog bed or the floor. However, several mornings his foster mom woke up to find Tucker sleeping at the foot of the bed!
Tucker is obsessed with food and bolts his meals down. A slow feed bowl or large rock in his bowl is necessary to slow him down! He will sit and take treats gently, though. He also knows “sit,” “down,” “come,” “shake,” “speak,” and “go lie down.” Going for walks Tucker does pull on the leash, wanting to sniff everything he possibly can. He is more interested in exploring than meeting other dogs and people.
Handsome knows to jump up on a grooming table and is good about being groomed. At the vet, Tucker was a gentleman and tolerated all the poking and prodding!
Tucker will happily jump in the car with his foster mom; he is unhappy about riding in a crate. He is also an unhappy camper if he is crated in the house and will let the whole neighborhood know exactly how unhappy he is!
Mr. T. is a bit stand-offish with people he doesn’t know and needs to be allowed to warm up to them in his own time. Once he gets to know someone, they are “his” and he wants to be near or at least within sight of them. If his foster mom is in the house, Tucker only wants to be in the house, too, no matter how nice the day is! Outside he is content to hang out nearby and watch the activities.
Tucker has only one “vice” in that he doesn’t like being taken by the collar to be put outside or out of the kitchen (where the food is!). He will let his folks know in no uncertain terms that he intends to stay where he is. However, a strong tone will help move him. He needs to learn that he cannot intimidate his family in such situations.
This love is looking for a home without small children who may not understand his “don’t touch my collar” issues and one that will help him learn to meet new people more easily and continue to help this young man learn behaviors that will allow him to be the best Springer he can be.
