The bond formed through fostering is uniquely rewarding, knowing that you’ve played a vital role in preparing a deserving dog for their forever home. Each tail wag, every joyful leap, and the unconditional love they offer in return is a reminder of the positive impact one can have on these furry friends.

Whereas, the Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue, Inc. (MAESSR) is an organization of volunteers dedicated to rescuing unwanted English Springer Spaniel dogs and placing them in permanent adoptive homes; and WHEREAS, the undersigned has contacted MAESSR voluntarily and has expressed an interest in providing temporary homes for Springers rescued by MAESSR while a permanent adoptive home is located;

Now therefore, in consideration of the mutual undertakings herein and other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, the parties agree as follows:
I/We agree to act as a Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue, Inc. (MAESSR) Foster Provider and to abide by all requirements established by MAESSR for the care of any English Springer Spaniel (Springer) entrusted to me/us.
I/we hereby acknowledge that any Springer entrusted to me/us will remain the property of MAESSR and that MAESSR shall have the right to take possession of the Springer from Foster Provider at any time for any reason whatsoever.
I/we agree to take all necessary care to ensure the Springer’s safety while in my/our care and custody.
I/we agree that any Springer entrusted to me/us will be provided adequate shelter, food, water and exercise at all times while in my/our custody. I/we understand and agree that shelter, food, and applicable training will be provided at my/our expense, unless other arrangements have been made and agreed to by MAESSR.
I/we agree to keep keep and treat said Springer as an inside pet unless other arrangements have been made and agreed to in writing by a MAESSR officer or other designated volunteer.
I/we agree to take all necessary precautions to protect others from exposure to the Springer and/or injury. I/we agree to keep the Springer in the house or in a fenced yard on the grounds of the foster home at all times, and that all off-lead exercise will be in a secure, fenced area.
I/WE UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT NO SHOCK COLLARS OR OTHER VIOLENT CORRECTIONS ARE TO BE USED AT ANY TIME.
I/we agree to maintain the health and well-being of the Springer while in my/our custody. I understand that veterinary care including vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, altering and any necessary prescription medications will be funded by MAESSR. I/we understand that any other expenditures incurred by me/us (other than emergency care and treatment) require prior approval by MAESSR and that I/we may be held responsible for unapproved expenditures.
I/we agree to have a crate available should its use be necessary. I/we understand that MAESSR strongly recommends that the Springer be crated until it is ensured that they are housebroken and trustworthy. (MAESSR will provide loaner crates whenever possible.)
I/we understand that MAESSR intends to identify an appropriate permanent home for the Springer and I/we agree to assist MAESSR in doing so. I/we agree to evaluate the Springer and complete an evaluation form provided by MAESSR to be kept with the adoption package as information for the new owners. I/we agree to maintain all medical records and other documents that arrive with the Springer and those that are collected during the time the Springer is in my/our custody with the adoption package to be provided to the new owners.
I/we understand that the Springer is to be adopted to its permanent home only under the supervision of MAESSR to a family pre-approved by MAESSR. I/we further understand that prospective adoptive families may contact me/us to inquire about the Springer. I/we agree to accept telephone inquiries from approved families and pre-arranged visits by prospective families.
I/we agree to provide MAESSR with at least 48 hours prior notice of my/our intention to relinquish the Springer to MAESSR, and to give MAESSR reasonable time to find appropriate housing for said foster. I/we further agree and covenant that under no circumstances will the Springer be placed in the care and custody of a shelter or any other party unless authorized in writing by MAESSR.
I/we agree to promptly forward all donations connected with the adoption of the Springer(s) directly to MAESSR, PO Box 807, Goochland, VA 23063.
By entering into this agreement the Foster Provider represents and warrants that he/she is fully aware of the risks that Springers may pose and has elected to interact with the Springer voluntarily. Foster Provider knowingly assumes all risks that exposure to the Springer may pose, including but not limited to serious bodily injury and/or death. Foster Provider waives, releases, discharges, holds harmless, and agrees to indemnify MAESSR (and its directors, officers, volunteers, staff, and all other agents, attorneys, and any other parties acting for, or on their behalf) from any and all damages which may be sustained by Foster Provider or any other party directly or indirectly in connection with, or arising out of, Foster Provider’s care and custody of the Springer.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR FOSTER PROVIDERS: MAESSR encourages foster families to provide basic obedience training to their foster dog. Teaching the Springer such basic commands as "sit", "stay", and "come" are helpful and will help the Springer realize that people are to be the alpha dog in its life. Do not play roughly with the Springer, but rather exercise it appropriately and encourage it to let you rub its tummy with it on its back, which is a submissive posture. If you have particular questions about how to train a foster dog to rid it of a bad habit, please contact a MAESSR officer or other designated volunteer.
