Volunteer Preliminary Interview
Updated March 2021
Listed below are topics to discuss with new volunteers during the initial phone interview. You should send an e-mail to the potential volunteer to arrange a convenient time to talk.
Release All volunteers are required to sign the release, even if they do not do transports for MAESSR. New volunteers will not be approved or added to volunteer e-mail lists until a signed transport release is received.
NOTE: The potential volunteer has already signed the release form by the time they have been assigned an interviewer. The Volunteer Coordinator sends it as part of initial contact with the potential volunteer and does not move forward until the release is received.
Contact If you don’t receive a reply from the volunteer within one week, e-mail him/her again. If he/she doesn’t respond to you by the end of the second week, please inform the Volunteer Coordinator (volunteers@maessr.org) so she may remove him/her from the list of potential volunteers. Chances are, if they are not responsive to your e-mails, they won’t be conscientious volunteers. If you run into a delay, please inform the Volunteer Coordinator. If during your conversation you believe someone would not be a good volunteer (e.g., if they are disrespectful, rude, insincere, etc.), you should feel free to end the call. Most new volunteers know little or nothing about MAESSR, so try to put yourself in their shoes when doing the interview. And remember, you are their first contact with MAESSR. So be polite, enthusiastic, and tell them why it’s great to be a MAESSR volunteer! You may even make a new friend.
