AGILITY IS FUN! BOOK 2: CONTROL AND HANDLING TECHNIQUES FOR COMPETITORS AT ALL LEVELS OF AGILITY (209 pages) by Ruth Hobday. Ruth Hobday develops the introduction to the world of agility given in her first book, Agility is Fun. Book 2 is clearly illustrated with diagrams and photgraphs by Sandra Russell. In this exciting second book she shares more secrets of training and control and includes a great many exercises.
MARLEY & ME (291 pages) by John Grogan. The heartwarming & unforgettable story of a family & the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life. Now with photos & new material. Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans. John & Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young & in love, with not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound steamroller of a Labrador retriever. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, & stole women’s undergarments. Obedience school did no good — Marley was expelled. But just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love & loyalty were boundless, too. Marley remained a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit’s end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms. Marley & Me is John Grogan’s funny, unforgettable tribute to this wonderful, wildly neurotic Lab & the meaning he brought to their lives. Donated by Darlene Cole.

DOC (DA JEONGAH, class of 2017) was relinquished to MAESSR because he was not getting along with the new 8-month-old Irish setter puppy in his VA home, had been handed off to a couple homes before his relinquishing home four years earlier. He was fostered by DEBBIE LIPCSEY and adopted by ANDREA SARDONE’s family. He was the light of their lives and Andrea’s true love and companion. He was pure love and everyone that knew him knew that he was special and wonderful. He is one of the best things to have ever happened to Andrea who loved him more than anything and is heartbroken.
LEXIE 4 (class of 2021) was taken in by her CA owner’s son when she passed. When he traveled the country camping in his truck, he took her along for the ride. It eventually became too cold & he found MAESSR, hoping to find a worthy home for Lexie. She was fostered briefly by EVA VAN STRATUM & then was a foster failure for MARTINE AND STUART EISENBERG. After just 6 weeks, her new dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. She never left his room at night during his hospice care. A constant companion to her mom, she helped her afterwards & during a move to be closer to family. Sadly, a year later, Lexie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, had her rear leg amputated to relieve the pain & try to extend her life. Lexie never missed a beat & usually took 2-mile walks on 3 legs, charming everyone. She had 2 rounds of chemo before it was discovered to have spread to her lungs. Beautiful inside & out, this 7-year-old neighborhood ambassador is now pain free.
SEAMUS (CARMINE, class of 2011) came to MAESSR as part of a surprise litter for his owners. He was fostered by KATHERINE DAVIES and adopted by WILLIAM STURDEVANT’s family. Seamus was William’s best friend for nearly fourteen years, and it was terribly hard to say goodbye. But they were the most wonderful fourteen years. William wishes to express, to all involved, gratitude for allowing Seamus into their lives – it was a true blessing.
