Featured Library Titles
NEW TO THE LIBRARY! MANAGE IT! HACKS FOR IMPROVING YOUR DOG’S BEHAVIOR (196 pages) by Juliana DeWillems, KPA CP, DCBC. Most of us see dogs as part of our family and love nearly everything about them. However, there are always going to be behaviors from our dogs that we might want to change. This book outlines simple, effective ways to change your dog’s behavior that do not fall under conventional training recommendations. Known as management, these solutions focus on preventing unwanted behaviors from occurring, leading to a more harmonious life with your dog. Each chapter dives into a different behavior issue that dog guardians commonly face, including: Getting into the trash – Dashing out doors – Jumping on guests – Barking – Pulling on leash – Counter-surfing – And more… Management can give a family immediate relief from the challenging behavior they are experiencing from their dog and allow for progress to be built from there. Sometimes, implementing management prevents dog training services from being needed at all. While some dog training books touch on the concept of management, there is no other book that focuses as much on using this powerful technique as this one does. In this book, you will gain an understanding of what management is and how to use it, as well as learn about dog behavior and the science of learning. Ultimately, Manage It! is about supporting and enriching the human-canine bond through behavior-change solutions that work for both ends of the leash. Donated by Cathy Moyer.
BARKING: THE SOUND OF A LANGUAGE (108 pages) by Turid Rugaas. Barking is natural and almost all dogs bark. It is one of the many ways dogs communicate with each other as well as with humans. In this book, author Turid Rugaas, well known for her work on identifying and utilizing canine calming signals, turns her attention to understanding and managing barking behavior. Donated by Cathy Moyer.
Library Wish Lists
The TRAINING LIBRARY has TWO Wish Lists. New or used titles can be purchased from the Amazon list; Dogwise has new books and DVDs. Purchases can be shipped directly to the library. Pretty quick and easy way to help out MAESSR as well as educate adopters!

VIDEOS – VIDEOS – VIDEOS! We have a new YouTube channel called Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue. FOSTER HOMES ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEND IN VIDEOS OF THEIR CURRENT CHARGES FOR BOTH YOUTUBE AND THE DOGS’ ADOPTION PAGES. We need the dogs’ official MAESSR names and numbers as nicknames are too confusing. When sharing videos of adopted dogs, please also include the adoption year along with their official MAESSR name. Please send your videos here.
If you have a PET IN NEED OF PRAYERS, please email Linda Shope or Linda Johnston. They would be happy to add your pet’s name to the pet ministry prayer list.
IF YOU SEE A SPRINGER NEEDING RESCUE: For a springer being re-homed in an ad on social media or in a newspaper, please email the relinquishment team. For a springer in a shelter, please email the shelter dog team. In your email include contact info such as links to the online post, shelter name, state, and phone number.
Did you move? Did you change your email address? ADDRESS CHANGES should be emailed here. On the new website you can set up an account under the Shop tab so that MAESSR can keep track of your mailing address; your email can also be changed under Your Account in the top right-hand corner with Edit Profile.
If you need advice regarding behavioral issues, certified and credentialed trainers that use positive methods only to help guide people to the correct resources can be found at CCPDT and IAABC.
