Original: “Jasper is a good dog, a one-person dog who is devoted to that individual.”
When Jasper’s Pennsylvania owner died, this senior Springer was cared for by the owner’s sister. However, her work situation changed and she could no longer care for Jasper. She contacted MAESSR knowing that the very best new home for Jasper would be found.
Jasper is a good dog, a one-person dog who is devoted to that individual. He is now living on a farm with his foster mom and he is very good with her husband who has dementia. Housetrained, Jasper will go outside in the morning to do his business off lead. He stays around the house and does not leave the area, coming when he is called. Jasper likes to run alongside the four-wheeler gator when his foster mom drives it around the farm and he always enjoys walking with her outside off lead. This exercise has helped him lose some excess weight.
Jasper gets along with other dogs but he does not show interest in playing with them. The neighbor’s dogs bark when Jasper is out walking with his foster mom but he just looks about to see what is happening. He is skittish with new people. After they arrive, he will make low barking or growling noise and just sit next to his foster mom. He stands next to his foster mom when her toddler grandson arrives and does a quiet growl but does not interact with kids or guests. He appears to be more fearful of little kids than adults. He is not anxious to have anyone pet him. He just wants to sit near his foster mom. It is hoped this behavior will change as he is exposed to more people.
Jasper loves his stuffed toys and carries them around. He sleeps on foster mom’s bed and will go there when no one is home. If his people are home, he just sleeps on his doggie bed. He is good all day when left alone as he has no bad habits. His food is left out all day in the kitchen and he eats when he wants.
Jasper is good at the groomers and well-behaved in the car. He can be touched all over without any problems. Currently, he has an eye infection and he readily allows foster mom to put in his eye drops daily. Good boy, Jasper.
When Jasper arrived in his foster home, he was receiving Apoquel for reported paw chewing. Foster mom has not seen a sign of anxiety or paw chewing since he has been with her; perhaps his licking had been due to a little allergy from running in the fields. This sweet senior just needs a urine sample and his vetting will be completed.
Are you ready for Jasper to be your one and only? He’s ready to have you be the center of his universe!
