Belle came into MAESSR’s care from northern Virginia from an owner who could no longer care for her – time was at a premium and unfortunately none was available to spend with Belle.
This petite 37 pound girl has impeccable house manners; she is housetrained, does no counter-surfing, and leaves trash baskets alone. She recently developed a non-harmful fetish with shoes and slippers. When left at home alone, she moves this footwear from point A to point B without chewing or damaging them. She just relocates them! Ahh -the mysterious workings of the Springer brain!
Belle has been on some skin medications which are placed in with her food. She doesn’t separate the pills out like most dogs usually do; she just gently eats everything – impressive! She knows basic commands of sit and come; she and her foster mom are working on down and stay. On her first night at her foster mom’s, Belle had to share the house with a visiting black lab. All went well. She is frequently with the neighbor’s golden retriever either in the yard or house. Again, Belle just gets along well with all other dogs; however, she has not been exposed to cats in her current foster home.
Belle likes the outdoors, willingly going for walks at any time. She is enchanted with local wildlife – squirrels, rabbits and wild turkeys – and will stand indefinitely watching them, even sometimes on point. If nothing else, her little butt shakes during her observations. Of course, Belle is a sniffer and on her walks, her nose is usually on the ground checking everything out. Recently, this paid off in finding a dead baby rabbit which she left alone but did remember on the return trip exactly where she found the bunny!
This dog is really cuddly and, given the opportunity, Belle will gladly snuggle right next to her person on the sofa. She tried for sleeping with her foster mom, but was promptly removed to the floor or the dog bed. She learns quickly and has not tried for the bed again. She does like to jump gently and affectionately on people out of happiness with the attention!
Belle would do well in a home where someone can give her time. She’s very lovable and easy to get along with. She is really quite undemanding but does need your attention as she doesn’t know what do to with toys. She does need someone to follow around. Could this be you?
