IT’S A FUNDRAISER! 2023 marks 25 years of MAESSR! To celebrate, we’ve launched a t-shirt fundraiser. You can choose from a t-shirt, long-sleeve t-shirt, or a crewneck sweatshirt in a variety of colors. All proceeds help MAESSR continue to find homes for Springers in need. Tiffaney and Ben Williams organized the fundraiser and have personally used Bonfire before, and the clothing they have is very comfortable, so buy with confidence!

Misc. Funding/Resources
- We can earn money through WOOFTRAX.COM just by walking our dogs which most of us already do – in fact you don’t even need a dog, just a smartphone and some good walking shoes! Download the app for your iPhone/smart phone and follow the directions. (If Wooftrax doesn’t come up, look for Walk For A Dog.) When you are asked to pick a shelter/rescue (it may show the one closest to your home, but ask to change), pick VIRGINIA as the site, scroll to the M’s and select Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue. You will then be asked to verify your email address but just keep following the directions, and the app will appear on your phone’s screen. When you tap it, you’re invited to enter your dog’s information and start walking. It is a simple process each time you go for a walk. The more people who participate, the more money earned. We can also win donations by signing up for Challenges. All you need to do is tap the Challenges button! Currently we have 14 active (uses the app at least once a week) walkers. Spread the word – make your walks count!
- The MAESSR MARKETPLACE is open 24/7 for purchases. Click the Shop Now button on our Facebook page or go to MAESSR.org and click on Marketplace under Categories. We’ve got cool toys for man’s best friend and companion. Check out our Almost Gone/Bargain sections and Clearance items as well as our New items which are adorable. The MAESSR store and website are in transition – thanks so much for your understanding while we make improvements to the store and website.

THE [ORIGINAL] DOG WHISPERER PRESENTS GOOD HABITS FOR GREAT DOGS: A POSITIVE APPROACH TO SOLVING PROBLEMS FOR PUPPIES AND DOGS (224 pages) by Paul Owens with Norma Eckroate. Following the success of his books The Dog Whisperer, 2nd Edition and The Puppy Whisperer, Paul Owens introduces a groundbreaking new approach to addressing and solving specific problem behaviors—and encouraging great ones—in his newest book. Encompassing the author’s nonviolent, positive training methods, this guide is a shortcut in the training process as it uses the innovative concept of training by automatic habit—making it possible to eliminate dogs’ problem behaviors in a shorter time than ever before. Enhanced by forty demonstrative black and white photographs, this step-by-step book makes dog training so easy, it’s impossible not to see immediate results, translating to happier dogs—and thrilled owners. LESSONS FROM YOUR REACTIVE DOG (237 pages) by Sally Gutteridge. What happens when you are walking with your dog and see a dog off lead? Does the presence of the strange dog unnerve you? Do you become tense? Does your dog tense up? If this is you, read on. Living with a reactive dog can accidently create a reactive person and a cycle of negative experiences begin. There is an answer though! It might not have always been this way, perhaps walking once triggered positive emotion. Maybe we were happy until something specific happened, for example we met someone with an unfriendly dog that attacked ours or made them really scared. We too could have felt scared, then that fear grew over the next few walks, until we felt it the moment we saw another dog in the distance. Maybe we too began to experience the negative emotion with every walk, it became a habit and we even experience it whilst thinking or remembering. Nowadays we don’t even have to be out with our dogs to experience the fear and frustration, we can get angry at home, on our own. When we walk our dogs the two of us become one emotional, physical and psychological state. If we are relaxed that’s amazing. If we are tense, we become unified with a self-reinforced cycle of tension. We address this self-reinforcing cycle here, in great depth, to take you both from reactive to relaxed, for lasting and effective results. Welcome to your journey of understanding your precious influence, the wonder of your dog and the amazing individual, powerful force you become when the two of you truly connect. Did You Know?
- MPORTANT INFO! The io mail groups will be going away in the near future, and everyone will need to “Subscribe to the Weekly Pupdate” on the new website to receive the Weekly Update which will be sent out through MailPoet. The “Subscribe to Weekly Pupdate” link can be found in various places on the new website, usually in the right sidebar. In the future, if you need to change your email address, you can do that in your account settings once you set those up. You can set up your account under Kenny Login at the top of the home page. Access to your account will be in the top right-hand corner. The MailPoet Weekly Pupdate will be a work in progress so look for it to change as we go along. (I appreciate everyone’s patience!) In the meantime, the Weekly Update will still go out in the io mail groups and on Facebook until the complete switchover is made.
- Look for more info on the new website in the coming weeks! In the meantime, check out the tutorials at https://maessr.org/video-tutorials/.
- From Tiffaney Williams: “We’re creating a gallery of MAESSR stories and we want to hear from you! In one paragraph, tell us about your favorite MAESSR memory. That can be about a dog you adopted or fostered, how you first found MAESSR, a memorable event you attended, or anything else. Please include a relevant picture, or just one of your MAESSR dog. Send to maessrorders@gmail.com.” Here is an example of a story: https://maessr.org/example-story/. PLEASE SEND ASAP TO MAESSRORDERS@GMAIL.COM. And don’t forget about our t-shirt fundraiser! https://www.bonfire.com/maessr-25th-anniversary/. If you have any questions, please contact me at the same email, MAESSRORDERS@GMAIL.COM. Thanks, everyone!
- MAESSR would like to feature YOUR adopted dogs on our brand-new website! If you adopted a dog from MAESSR between the years of 1998 and 2012, please send a clear, hi-res photo to maessrorders@gmail.com. Be sure to include the name and year adopted. This is just for dogs adopted from 1998 through 2012. WE STILL NEED A DOG FROM 1999! Send your photos to maessrorders@gmail.com, and you may see your dog on our new site! (Our diligent volunteers added over 3,600 adopted dogs to the future website! They only have to put the final touches on the Adopted Dogs pages.)
- VIDEOS – VIDEOS – VIDEOS! MAESSR has a new YouTube channel (called Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue) linked to our new website with videos from our current YouTube channel (MAESSR) and our other dogs being uploaded. FOSTER HOMES ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEND IN VIDEOS OF THEIR CURRENT CHARGES FOR BOTH YOUTUBE AND THE DOGS’ ADOPTION PAGES. We will be coming up with a few simple guidelines but will definitely need the dogs’ official MAESSR names and numbers as nicknames are too confusing. When sharing videos of adopted dogs, please also include the adoption year along with their official MAESSR name. We will be using the same link for sending videos, videos@maessr.org.
- If you have a PET IN NEED OF PRAYERS, please contact Linda Shope at stlrsgl@gmail.com or Linda Johnston at springerlove@comcast.net. They would be happy to add your pet’s name to the pet ministry prayer list.
- IF YOU SEE A SPRINGER NEEDING RESCUE: For a springer being rehomed in an ad on social media or in a newspaper, please email relinquish@maessr.org. For a springer in a shelter, please email shelterdog@maessr.org. In your email include contact info such as links to the online post, shelter name, state, and phone number.
- Did you move? Did you change your email address? ADDRESS CHANGES can be emailed to addresschange@maessr.org. This is changing with the new website. Please set up an account under the Shop tab so that MAESSR can keep track of your mailing address; your email can be changed under Your Account in the top right-hand corner with Edit Profile.
- If you need some advice regarding behavioral issues, certified and credentialed trainers that use positive methods only to help guide people to the correct resources can be found at https://www.ccpdt.org/dog-owners/certified-dog-trainer-directory/ and at https://m.iaabc.org/consultant/.
